Overview

The Hard Yards’ Data Dojo is your organization’s pathway for digital literacy. Gartner defines data literacy as the ability to read, write and communicate data in context, including an understanding of data sources and constructs, analytical methods and techniques applied – and the ability to describe the use case, application and resulting value. With this definition in mind the Data Dojo emphasizes “learning by doing” and leverages the client’s Agile software data to showcase commercial best practices of data understanding, data preparation, and modeling to enhance decision making.  

In this immersive 5-day dojo, participants will learn how enterprise architectures support the organization’s operational backbone and digital platform to enhance product development. Armed with this organizational understanding, the cohort will learn how data from Agile software tools can produce visualizations using business intelligence (BI) tools.  The participants will progress from understanding Little’s Law, the relationship of cycle time, throughput and work in progress, to building cumulative flow diagrams (CFDs), cycle time scatterplots, and forecasting the completion of features with Monte Carlo simulations.  The cohort will learn to export data from the organization’s Agile software toolset and import this data into BI tools in order to build dashboards for senior level decision makers.  During the final day of the Data Dojo, participants will present these CFDs, scatterplots, and other visualizations to senior leaders in addition to a prioritized backlog of work items to incorporate data driven decision making into all levels of the organization.
